In 1991, the Correctional Security Trust Benefit Fund was conceived by a number of concerned Correction Officers at Clinton Correctional Facility due to the increasing number of lock-outs for various reasons, and usually without pay. So the idea of a fund other than the old pass the hat was created.
This was accomplished in 1992 when CST was authorized by the Internal Revenue Service to act as a 501(c) (9) organization, as a Not For Profit, Voluntary Employee Benefit Association Trust. In December 1995 CST secured a payroll deduction program through the New York State Comptrollers Office. Presently, we have payroll for all NYSCOBA (New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association, Inc.) union members.
All other employees of the New York State Department of Correctional Services are eligible for membership, but must pay their dues directly to the fund. CST Benefit Fund is operated for the members, by the members, and with only the BEST interest of the members in mind. CST Benefit Fund has NO union or political affiliations, and can not now or in the future, take any position for or against any union, political affiliation or group.
We welcome all employee's of the New York State Dept of Corrections and all members of NYSCOPBA to join CST.
